Surf Fishing Martha's Vineyard
Martha's Vineyard is such a spectacular place to fish, especially from the shore! You want your time spent here to be productive and the Vineyard can be challenging at times. It's important to know which tide and bait works best for your location. Whether you're a veteran surf angler or just starting out, the Vineyard can be frustrating.

Having a fishing guide is an asset if you never fished the waters around the Vineyard. I have for almost 30 years, and can take you places on the Vineyard that are holding fish & breathtaking to see, to say the least!
Fishing Seasons
There are several different species to fish around the Island. The four main species targeted from the shore are striped bass, bluefish, bonito and false albacore. Bonito show up mid to late July, sometimes as late as August. False Albacore are usually right behind them, but can arrive as late as September. Striped Bass fishing is best during the spring and fall months for the surf caster. Bass arrive as early as April and leave as late as December. Bass fishing in July and August becomes difficult and a nighttime trip is recommended. Bluefish begin to show up mid to late May and stay as late as November.

July has been a tough month for surf casting on the Vineyard this year. Water is super warm, and those big bass just are not around. Plenty of small bass and blues and the Vineyard angler needs to downsize to light tackle right now if you want any action.

Striped bass are in Vineyard waters!!!   Okay, they're small, but they still pull on light tackle and fly. Bottom water temperatures are still a bit chilly, in the high 40's (47-48 degrees), but that is not deterring schoolie size striped bass from feeding on silversides and herring. Hickory shad

They're here!!! Small keeper size striped bass have shown in Vineyard waters. Squid are in our island harbors. Most reports have been from the south shore of the Vineyard, but schoolie size bass and small keepers are all around the island, with the south shore being the most productive. Bluefish
