Surfcasters should be hitting East Beach and Wasque Point for good striped bass and bluefishing. Wasque is giving up good bluefishing on both tides, but the outgoing tide has been producing better action. Surface plugs and metal like Kastmasters and Maria's have been excellent.
East beach after dark has been producing good numbers of bass. Bass up to 25-pounds have been taken on Slug-gos, Bombers, Rapala's and Danny's. My friends and I have been doing well with black, but I know white and yellow and all white have been equally successful for many other surfcasters.
Up-island has been giving up bass and blues, but with dirty water and the surf line filled with weed, it's been a bit more challenging to present your bait or lure. The boats have been doing well off of Gay Head, especially Devil's Bridge, but the surfcaster has been left empty handed when it comes to the large numbers of fish that the boats have been getting.
There has been reports of a couple of 30-pound bass coming from the North Shore, places like Makoniky Head, Great Rock Bight, and Menemsha Hills. These fish have been taken on Slug-gos, metal lipped swimmers and needlefish.
